Mission

We approach each project as an opportunity to create buildings and spaces inspired by nature, fueled by innovation, and engaged in the culture of place. Our inventive, modern designs connect interior space with landscape, and our dynamic public spaces connect buildings with community.

History

The firm was founded in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 1994, where we began a decade’s long mission to create architecture that transcends “pioneer nostalgia,” toward designing environments that connect to the exceptional natural context.

Our influence on the community’s understanding of a westernized modern architecture continues to this day through our private residences, multi-family housing, restaurants, and most significantly the Jackson Hole Center for the Arts performance hall.

With a desire to expand our portfolio to include more public work in diverse environments, we opened a Denver office in 2012, where we designed a transformative epicurean market hall and hotel in a growing arts district. Through these projects and subsequent work, we continue to build upon a legacy of design integrity that has spurred the growth of the neighborhood.

The clarity of our mission allows each of our offices, with distinct abilities and project type expertise, to function as a single entity. Through unity of purpose, we design meaningful architecture, whether it be the precision of a private residence, attendance to a developer’s requisites, or community participation in public and institutional work. Our work has expanded beyond the western mountain region and has been acknowledged by publications as well as by more than fifty design awards.

Culture

Our clients and their projects are our first priority, and their requirements and desires enable us to begin the design process. We collaborate with our clients and consultants to produce design solutions that exceed client expectations. The creative process amongst our team of talented architects in each office is led by Stephen Dynia, the firm’s founder and design director. All of the work produced meets our high standard of design content.

Beyond the office environment, we contribute to the communities in which we work. Key staff has held positions on design review committees, the planning commission, served on arts and land conservation boards, and have been involved in academia. The firm also contributes to community planning efforts with the belief that architects have a responsibility to shape built environments for the collective benefit of society.
